Cleaning Cooking Oil Stains from Carpeting
Whether there is carpeting in the kitchen or dining room, or food is brought into the living room to be enjoyed in front of the television, at one point or another, carpeting in any home is susceptible to cooking oil stains.
However, cooking oil stains are one of the most damaging stains to a carpet, as oil deeply penetrates carpet fibers, so they must be cleaned and extracted immediately. The following tips detail how to remove oil stains from a carpet so that they do not sit for too long and permanently damage the carpeting.
Put a cloth on the stain
First, quickly put a cloth on a fresh oil stain to start absorbing the spilled oil and prevent it from spreading further, making the stain worse.
Apply baking soda
As soon as possible, remove the cloth and apply baking soda. Baking soda is known for absorbing moisture and cooking oil, which further helps extract oil from the carpet.
Use a soft brush to distribute the baking soda on the cooking oil stain evenly. Start from the edges and spread it to the center so the oil isn’t brushed outwards, causing it to spread.
Vacuum to remove
After leaving the baking soda to absorb the oil, vacuum the carpet with an oil-removing cleaning solution. The oil stain should be mostly unapparent after this step.
Allow the damp spot to dry
Allow the affected area to dry after vacuuming. Wet carpeting is highly vulnerable to dirt, stains, and damage from furniture or foot traffic pressure, so it should be left alone until it’s completely dry.
Carpets are an investment in any household, so they must be preserved as long as possible. Ideally, food should be kept away from carpeting, but this is not always possible or convenient. Remember these tips to take immediate action in case of a cooking oil stain on carpeting.
